Ok Google Spotify

Smart speakers are now the world’s fastest-growing consumer technology segment, with people buying Amazon Echo and Google Home more quickly than smartphones and tablets. As per a new report from Canalys, Google beat out Amazon for the first time in smart speaker shipments, ultimately sending out 3.2 million of it’s Google Home and Google Mini devices in the first three months of 2018, while Amazon shipped only 2.8 million.

Google Home is a wifi-connected, voice-controlled smart speaker capable of playing music, answering questions and controlling other devices about the home. You can use it to pull in music from Spotify , Google Play Music, YouTube Music, Pandora, and Tunein, so pretty much whatever major music service you use. One of the great things advertised about Google Home is it can play any song you like on-demand, you just say “Okay Google, play [whatever song you fancy].”

How to Choose Spotify as Default Music Service on Google Home?

You can ask the Google Home to play music from a specific service, but when you say, 'OK, Google, play some music' without specifying the service, it'll turn to your default music service. To select Spotify as a default service, you can refer to the following steps (or visit Google's support page)

Open the Google Home app. Tap Account in the top-right. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google Home or Google Nest device. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account. Back on the home screen, tap + in the top-left, then Music and audio. Select Spotify and tap Link Account, then Log in to Spotify.

  • For my own experience I believe the capabilities of Okay Google with Spotify is that it simply searches and autoplays the top result of your query So if you say 'Okay Google play California on Spotify' it will pull up Spotify, enter California into the search and play the top result, it all depends on Spotify search, so maybe you could try just the album name or I believe it would work if you dropped out the by like 'Okay Google play Savage Breathe Carolina on Spotify'.
  • Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps. When you have eliminated the JavaScript, whatever remains must be an empty page. Enable JavaScript to see Google Maps.
  • It used to be really convenient. I used to be able to say 'ok google, play this song in spotify' and it will always play it. Now when I do that, it just opens the spotify app to the last thing I had open. This thread is archived. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast.
  • Turning on ‘OK, Google’ Open your App Drawer and open the Google app, then tap the More (hamburger menu) in the corner, and go to Settings. Alternatively, you can go to Settings Google Search.
  • Set up your Google Home using the Google Home app.
  • In the app, link your Google and Spotify accounts.
  • Set Spotify as your default music service.

Once you've linked your Spotify account to Google Home, you can ask it to play your favorite songs, artists, albums, and playlists from Spotify by using voice commands.
