May 03, 2019 Dropbox is the most popular consumer online storage platform, now with over half a billion users in the system. Their primary client is the Dropbox desktop sync client, which mirrors a folder named Dropbox out to the cloud.

#When dropbox is not working on ubuntu 12
#you tried to execute on terminal:
#dropbox start
#and the error is something like this:
#Starting Dropbox.../home/YOUR_USER/.dropbox-dist/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.11' not found (required #by /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libproxy.so.1)
#Failed to load module: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gio/modules/libgiolibproxy.so
#Done!
#FIX
cd /home/YOUR_USER/.dropbox-dist/
#find the libstdc++.so.6
locate libstdc++.so.6
#probably you'll get this:
#/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
#/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6.0.16
#then
sudo mv libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so.6.orig
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6.0.16 libstdc++.so.6
#Done, just execute from terminal with:
dropbox start
#If it pass.. better you quit and execute it in usual way. (GUI)

How To Reconnect To Dropbox Ubuntu

commented Oct 20, 2012

  1. Logging out in Ubuntu 18.04 GNOME. It is okay to wonder about how to log out in Ubuntu. It’s because the option for logging out is a bit hidden in GNOME. What you need to do here is to go to the top right corner of the screen and click on the drop down to bring out the setting panel. In here, click on your username.
  2. Unexpectedly, the commands listed here deleted Dropbox folders 'in the cloud'. I.e., I have Dropbox working well under different OSs, but running these commands deleted folders completely (rather than just from the current OS). I tried performing this on linux, but notice the result from Mac.
Ubuntu install dropbox

Thanks a lot, man! This issue started appearing on two of my machines after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10. I also left a breadcrumb in a Dropbox forum thread where I noticed people described the same problem https://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=44314

Cheers!

Dropbox ubuntu cli

Thanks! I wasn't sure what consequences the error would have, but this seems to have fixed it.

Dropbox Ubuntu

I just upgraded to Xubuntu 12.10 and had the same problem. Other than my version of libstdc++ now being 6.0.17, these instructions worked. Thanks for posting.
